Frankenstein

I did my pecha kucha on the book Frankenstein.  Frankenstein was written by Mary Shelley when she was only nineteen years old and it was published when she was twenty-one years old.  The book begins with Captain Walton sailing into the North Pole in the search of glory and he meet Viktor Frankenstein who comes aboard his ship and tells him his story.  Viktor searches for the answer to life through science and he creates a monster made out of limbs of dead people.  The story takes a turn for the worst and the monster begins to wreak havoc on Frankenstein's life.  It kills his brother and his fiancee and turns Viktor's life upside down.  He turns to a path of vengeance and sorrow and spends the rest of his life chasing down the abominable monster he has created. I personally really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it yet.  Not only does Shelley lead you on wild goose chase but it leaves wanting even more when your done reading it.  I enjoyed doing this project because it gave me a way to rely a great book to fellow readers and it was also our also our last project for literature class.

Graduation

As senior year winds we all are beginning to prepare for graduation.  I still can't believe that the year is about to end.  It seems like we just started out senior year and that I had a whole year to go before I really had to think about college.  This year has been my best year at Saint Mark's by far, in that I had great teachers and an overall great time.  I am going to miss Saint Mark's a lot when I move on to the University Of Delaware.  In some ways I know it is for the better but I am still going to miss all the great things I have gotten from this school experience. I only have four days remaining this week and then three days for finals the next week.  It seems like just yesterday that I was entering Saint Mark's as a freshman and now I am graduating as a senior. I have had a great time at this school and I have made friends that I know I will have for the rest of my life.  Saint Mark's has taught me to work as hard as I can and I will accomplish whatever I set my mind to.  On June first we all say goodbye to great school and take our first steps on our road to the rest of our lives.

CTHD

6) At the end of the movie when Shu Lien says, “whatever path you take in life, be true to yourself” this is a very important event and must be noted.  When Shu Lien says this I believe she is saying be who you really are and not what anyone else wants you to be.  In the movie Jen is being used by Jade Fox and does things that she doesn’t really see as being right but instead of not doing it she does what she is told.  Li Mu Bai sees the true heart in Jen, even if she tries to kill him he knows what really lies within her heart.  For Shu Lien to say this takes true compassion, because she has just lost the one who she loves because of Jen and she is still willing to tell her this.  Jen feels sorrow for what she has caused and realizes that she must be real to herself and to everyone else from now on.  Jen goes to Wudan mountain and jumps off into the mist as a way to honor what Shu Lien has said to her.  I believe that from now she will conduct herself as she feels fit and not according to anyone else’s agenda.  Jen has finally realized she has a true heart and is not a bad person.

Basketball

My favorite sport to play is basketball.  During the week whenever I don’t have work my friends and I always go to the PAL in Hockessin and we play basketball for a few hours.  I have liked playing basketball ever since I was little when my dad taught me how to.  My dad would always come outside with me and show me how to shoot the ball and how to dribble.  Ever since then basketball has been my favorite sport.  A few years ago I even play basketball for St. Mary’s, and even though I only played for one season it was a lot of fun and I learned a lot of how to play basketball.  A few months ago I had to put a stop to playing basketball for a while since I tore my mcl.  When I did this I was driving to the net and my foot slid out from underneath me and gave out.  Although this was probably the most painful thing that has ever happened to me the fact I couldn’t play basketball is what really killed me.  Just recently I got back to basketball for the first time since my injury.  I had to use crutches for a while and I still have to wear my brace when doing anything strenuous.  Although it is quite painful to play still I am really happy that I can start playing again.  I will have to work my way back into sports because the last thing I want to do is reinjure my knee and have to wait even longer to play again.  I am now running outside when I have the chance and spending as much time excercising as I can so I can strengthen my knee back to its full health.  Hopefully one day soon I will be back to normal and I can play sports like I used to.

Summer

This summer is going to be my last summer until I am in college and I plan on enjoying it.  Only a few more months until the senior class graduates and we all move on our own ways.  In some ways this is sad but in others it is exciting.  Although I may not see some of my friends ever again I will make plenty of new friends and I know I will enjoy college.  So far this summer I only some of things I am doing but I know in a month or two I will have plenty of more things on my list.  During January my family goes to ocean city Maryland for the week at the beach.  I look forward to this everywhere since we stay at a hotel directly over the boardwalk and we get to go on the beach for an entire week.  We have a lot of fun while we are down there by doing a bunch of activities.  One of my favorite things we do is going jet-sking.  Every year we rent jet-skis and go out into the bay and fly drive around as fast as we can and get sent flying off the jet-skis when we hit waves.  Another fun thing we do at the beach is go laser-tagging.  Every year we head over to the laser-storm place and we spend an hour or two playing each other and other people who are there.  Besides the activities we do I just like spending the whole day laying on the beach.  When the sun starts to go down my cousin and I get our skim-boards and we go out and skim the water close to the beach.  I can’t wait for this summer to come because this year has truly been exhausting and I could use a vacation.

College Acceptance/Reason for Major

I was recently accepted to the University of Delaware.  This was my first choice so I was very happy when I figured out I had finally been accepted.  Not only did I apply to the University of Delaware, but I also applied for the engineering program.  When I received my acceptance letter along with it came my acceptance into their environmental engineering program as well. I have always been interested in the environment and preserving it.  I personally love to be outdoors and doing things outside as opposed to sitting inside and watching television or playing games. Since I was little I have always loved to go fishing.  Fishing is one of my favorite hobbies and I love to do it during the summer.  There is a pond directly next to my dad’s house and I walk there whenever I have free time in the summer so I can fish.  In the pond I have caught bass, catfish, and turtles.  Every single time I catch a fish it is always an exciting experience and the thrill of the surprise is what really keeps me fishing.  Last summer I had spent an entire sitting around the pond and hadn’t caught one fish.  But right when I was getting ready to leave I had a huge bite on the line and when I began to reel it in I realized that it was a catfish.  This was the first catfish I had ever caught and I was really surprised when I pulled it out of the water.  Fishing is not only a fun pastime but it is also a good way to relax.  Whenever I was in a bad mood or I was mad I would go fishing and it would help me calm down.  Something about sitting around a pond on a nice summer day just waiting for a bite is tranquil.  Fishing will always be one of my favorite things to do and will always be a good way for me to get away from everything.

Most unbelievable thing in my life

The most unbelievable event in my life would have to be my trip to Mexico with my family freshman year of high school.  I had no idea I was going with them until I was told last minute that I was going and had to pack my stuff up.  The plane ride was long and very boring but when we got there it was truly incredible.  Our hotel had three pools, a beach, hot tubs, and arcades.  During this trip we did many fun activities such as fishing, shopping, hiking, and many more.  During the middle of week was when the most incredible thing I have ever done happened.  We started out the day with a hike up the side of a mountain and along the ocean for a couple miles.  While on this hike we were walking vertical up a mountainside and had to walk along treacherous paths and keep our footing or we could fall down the side of the mountain.  This hike was truly exhilarating and brought a good adrenaline rush to me.  After this long and exhausting hike we took a break on a private beach and had food brought to us.  When we were done resting we were told that we had to swim out into the ocean and catch a ride with a boat to a private island not far away.  When we got there we were greeted by a few men who had brought a bunch of donkeys with them.  I was a little confused at first but realized we had to ride them up the next mountain to a waterfall.  The only problem was I had never ridden a donkey and it was a pretty steep slope.  I figured I’d give it a shot and jumped on the donkey and made my way up the mountain.  When we reached the top we got to jump in an ice cold natural flowing waterfall which was truly breath-taking.  When we got out of the water we realized the donkeys had been taken back down the mountain and our guide instructed us that we would have to jump off the cliff into the ocean to get down.  I was really afraid to do this but then I mustered up the courage and leaped off the cliff into the water.  It was a really far drop and was truly the most exhilarating thing I have ever done.  When the boat came to pick us up the most unbelievable thing happened.  Once we were all on the boat a huge whale came up to the side and we were able to lean over and touch the side of it.  Also on our way back to the beach we saw a shark along a shallow reef nearby so close it could have hit our boat.  This trip was truly the most unbelievable thing I have ever experienced and I doubt I will ever forget it.
