anti hero

There are many typical anti heroes in movies and in books today.  I personally think a great example of an anti hero is batman.  Batman in my eyes is an anti hero because of what he does.  He goes around Gotham at night and fights all of the villains to protect the city.  Even though this seems to be a purely heroic act he doesn't follow the normal protocol for taking down criminals and bad guys.  In his own way he fights them, outside the legal system, and forces them to stop doing evil.  Batman is a glorified hero at times when the city needs him and depends on him.  But then at other times he is the hated villain of the city or the scapegoat everyone can put their faults and problems on.  He is whatever Gotham needs him to be, as he says in the In the movie the "Dark Knight", he is the true savior of the city by defeating the Joker and saving thousands of lives.  But in a courageous act he takes the blame for Harvey Dent's death even though Harvey had turned bad.  He is a knight in shining armor that is cloaked by darkness, he is the hero Gotham needs but doesn't want. Batman has many heroic traits, such as he a strong, determined, intelligent, and a inspiring hero.  No matter who he is going up against he always wins in the end just like a real hero does.  This is truly impressive due to the fact that he never once uses guns or any other weapon of that type, he always fights with his fists only.  This truly shows his heroic stature which can be seen in other stories such as Beowulf.  Batman is not who you would typically think of as hero because he deals with evil in the world through his own way of violence.  But batman does represent what is needed and wanted by the culture that created him.  We all want a brave hero who we can put our trust in and rely on when they are needed most.  Batman to me is the perfect example of an anti hero, someone who does good but does accomplishes it on their own terms and not those of society.
